Movie Franchises
Movies has been entertaining us for many years. And if a movie have a cliffhanger or gets to hit the blockbuster mark, then we will expect a follow up movie or movies. With this we will feature the greatest movie series that I have watched so far.
I already made an article about The Matrix Trilogy, before I watched the fourth part. In this list, however, I would not include the older movies since I haven't watched it and I don't have plans to watch it either. Anyway let's start with the list...
Superman
Directed by Richard Donner and produced by Ilya Salkind, Alexander Salkind and Pierre Spengler did the first two Superman movies starring Christopher Reeves. Then for the third and fourth Superman movies, it was directed by Richard Lester. Warner Bros. acquired the rights and did Superman Returns starring Brandon Routh before having The Man Of Steel starring Henry Cavill and directed by Zack Snyder.
Batman
Just like Superman, Batman had several changes as the movie series were shown in theaters. The first two, Batman and Batman Returns starring Michael Keaton and directed by Tim Burton. Batman Forever followed starring Val Kilmer and directed by Joel Schumacher and the series ended with Batman & Robin starring George Clooney. It was rebooted by director Christopher Nolan with Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises which Christian Bale for the starring role.
Harry Potter
The life of Harry Potter and his quest to finally defeat Voldemort. Four directors worked on the series namely, Chris Columbus, Alfonso Cuaron, Mike Newell and David Yates. But the leading actors stayed in the eight part movie series, David Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint.
Star Wars
Episodes IV, V and VI were first made before the other sequels. It was done by several directors like George Lucas, Irvin Kershner and Richard Marquand starring Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher. The prequel was done after 22 years and directed by George Lucas starring Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman. After Disney acquired it, the sequels were made directed by JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson starring Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver and John Boyega. This series was also called The Skywalker Saga.
Lord Of The Rings
Directed by Peter Jackson and stars Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen and Orlando Bloom among others. The trilogy were titled The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King. An epic fantasy film about the quest to destroy the One Ring to finally defeat the Dark Lord Sauron and his army.
X-Men (FOX)
FOX did several movies about the Marvel mutants starting off with X-Men, X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand which was directed by Bryan Singer and Brett Ratner starring Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry and Patrick Stewart. Then the prequels followed X-Men: First Class, X:Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse and The Dark Phoenix directed by Matthew Vaughn, Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg and stars Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence and Hugh Jackman. The movies evolved on the survival of mutants against different forces who wants the mutantkind eliminated.
The Wolverine Trilogy
The spinoff movies that was centered around Logan / Wolverine. It started with X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Wolverine and Logan which was directed by Gavin Hood and James Mangold. It starred Hugh Jackman who acted the same character for 24 years including Deadpool and Wolverine. The movies centered around the origins, adventures up to the death of Logan or The Wolverine.
Rush Hour
Starring Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan and directed by Brett Ratner. All three films revolved in the adventures and misadventures of two police, Lee and Carter, involving corrupt criminals in Los Angeles and Hong Kong.
Lethal Weapon
An American buddy cop action comedy movie series franchise created by Shane Black and directed by Richard Donner. All four movies were starred by Mel Gibson (Martin Riggs), Danny Glover (Roger Martaugh) Joe Pesci (Leo Getz) and Rene Russo (Lorna Cole). It focused on the crime fighting detectives of the LAPD involving Triads, gun smuggling, money laundering and other organized crimes.
I only listed movie series outside Marvel. I will have a separate article on those. Meanwhile, enjoy this suggestion list whenever you want to have a movie marathon on weekends or holidays.
