International Edition
In this article for our 9MM Blogzine #InMemoriam, I will share to you the people that I admired that has passed away.
They are from different countries unlike the Pinoy Edition that wrote about so you might be familiar with a lot of them. This list is also a backlog from a list that I did years ago. So let's go!
Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)
This German born theoretical physicist is my saint and my devil at the same time. He is my saint because he made different theories about the sun and time relativity. I recalled that my professor back in college explained Einstein's equation that time travel can be a reality. He is my devil because he is one of the scientists who collaborated to create the atomic bomb. Nevertheless, Einstein is still the most intelligent geniuses that ever lived.
Jimi Hendrix (1942 - 1970)
An American guitarist, songwriter and singer that made guitar playing awesome! Jimi plays the guitar as if that it is an extension of his body. Its like he is in a trance whenever he plays his guitar. My favorite songs are All Along The Watchtower, Angel and Purple Haze among others. Jimi Hendrix influenced a lot of guitar players, including myself. Too bad he's gone to influence more musicians.
Bob Marley (1945 - 1981)
This Jamaican singer, musician and songwriter is considered by many as the father of Reggae music. During his career, he is known to be a Rastafari icon. His music is so upbeat, relaxing and it gives the beach feeling. I love his music especially No Woman No Cry, Stir It Up and I Shot The Sherriff among others. His death made him a hero of many especially the supporters of marijuana.
Eddie Van Halen (1955 - 2020)
This American musician and songwriter of the band who is composed mostly of his brothers except the vocalist. His unique guitar playing and exceptional expertise for musical instruments are remarkable and that made him famous. Listen to their songs like Eruption, Jump and I Can't Stop Loving You among others that will make your jaws drop and drool over his talent and skills.
Alec John Such (1951 - 2022)
One of the founding members of Bon Jovi, Alec is their bassist. He is not really that famous but he contributed a lot to the music industry. So whenever I hear or read a musician died, I really listen to their songs to relive them. He started out the band and he died still as their band member. His dedication and loyalty aside from his talents are truly remembered.
Taylor Hawkins (1972 - 2022)
The drummer of Foo Fighters which Dave Grohl formed. From one drummer to another, Dave selected him because he has talent and skills to pound those drums and it was great. Not much that I can say about Taylor here but I am down when he passed away. He might have created, taught and influenced other would drummers around the world. Thanks Taylor Hawkins for your contributions.
Meat Loaf (1947 - 2022)
The singer of I Would Do Anything For Love has many contributions aside from this song. He also has his acting skills by appearing in the movies like Fight Club and Spice World together with the Spice Girls. A versatile and flexible artist, Meat Loaf proved that he is serious about his skills and craft. Unfortunately, he's gone but he will be remembered that he is this healthy rock singer and actor that kicks ass.
Bill Russell (1934 - 2022)
Another pillar of the National Basketball Association or NBA has passed away and he had contributed a lot to the sport. Bill Russell was a 5-time MVP,and a 12-time All Star in his career. He is one of greatest players in his time and would do shot blocking, man to man defense and rebounding because of his height and wing span. Another legend that is gone and would be remembered.
Owen Hart (1965 - 1999)
This Canadian wrestler had competed in numerous wrestling matches both in amateur and professional. In his WWE career, he has been a WWE European Champion, 4-time Tag Team Champion, 1994 King Of The Ring and headlined several pay per view events. He is one of the toughest but he was unable to use it when he fell to his death in front of a live audience because of an equipment malfunction. Owen was one of the greatest.
Bob Saget (1956 - 2022)
The voice narrator of Ted Mosby talking to his children in the TV series How I Met Your Mother. He was also a stand up comedian and host for the America's Funniest Home Videos. He contributed by making people laugh thru his stand up sketches like That's What I'm Talkin' About. And with that, he won the Grammy for Best Comedy Album. A sad loss for a person who made us laugh and made life light.
Olivia Newton-John (1948 - 2022)
This British-American singer and actor who is popularly known for her role as Sandy Olsson in the musical film Grease opposite John Travolta. She also sang songs that made you love her like I Honestly Love You, Physical and Hopelessly Devoted To You among others. She won several awards in her singing career. After battling breast cancer three times, she succumbed to it. What a strong woman!
Queen Elizabeth II (1926 - 2022)
The longest reigning monarch in history, Queen Elizabeth left us with her colonization especially in Africa. But nonetheless Her Majesty touched the lives of many with her philanthropy works, patronages and social work that made several organizations thrived. Although many doesn't support the monarchy, I believe that the Queen made her life and her people' lives fulfilled and extraordinary.
