In Memoriam 2022 (Pinoy Edition)

Pinoy Edition

The Philippines has been colorful when it comes to its art scene especially in music and films alike.

Filipinos love entertainment after a hard day's of work. In this article, we pay homage to Filipino artists and personalities who passed away. We honor their contributions to the Philippines and their legacy they left with us. Let's go!

Ferdinand Marcos Sr. (1917 - 1989)

When it comes to patriotism and love for the Philippines, there is no better President for me than Apo Lakay. He wanted the Philippines to be one of the first world countries and to be the first in Asia. I didn't understand EDSA Revolution up until when I grew up and it was a mistake for me. If it weren't for Marcos, we would be a country that can be at par with Singapore and Taiwan now.

Susan Roces (1941 - 2022)
The Queen of Philippine cinema opposite The King Fernando Poe Jr. She is loved by the people especially in the TV series FPJ's Ang Probinsyano as Lola Flora. As I checked her old photos, I was surprised that she was that lovely and pretty way back. no wonder The King chose her as his Queen.

Cherie Gil (1963 - 2022)
The Primera Kontrabida next to Bella Flores. Cherie has been the epitome of the antagonist in the Philippine Cinema. But she is opposite from that in real life. She is down to earth and very friendly according to her colleagues and people she worked with. Cherie is from the family of actors and she was very excellent in the craft that she do. Unfortunately we lost her to cancer.

Caloy Alde (1962 - 2022)
The Mr. Bean of the Philippines. Caloy was called as "OGAG" and played several skits as a stupid person. But aside from that he also shared his comedic skills in several gag shows like Loko Mo Ko U and other short skits over the internet. I love his style of comedy... very original and self deprecating. Thanks for the laughs you gave us, Ogag!

Ben Tisoy (1930 -2002)
His name is already funny. Tisoy in Filipino is a white complexioned person whereas Ben has a very dark complexion. Aside from that he has his trademark hand gesture while he is speaking that made him famous and hilarious. Ben started out as one of Isko Salvador's friends in the sitcom John n' Marsha with comedy king Dolphy. He is really one of the funny actors that should be recognized well.

Panchito Alba (1925 - 1995)
Panchito has been identified as Dolphy's sidekick. But he also made a name on his own in the comedy scene. He is usually teased about his unusual large nostrils. I always liked Panchito in those late comedy movies like Alyas Batman En Robin as Chupaenguin and several films always as Tiyo Paeng. A salute to you Panchito, you made my childhood fun and enjoyable.

Pork Chop Duo
Porky(1948 - 2009) and Choppy(1955 - 2018) had traveled places because of their jokes and singing. They delivered their comedic sketches in different parts of the world like Las Vegas and other US cities. Their jokes and delivery were so perfectly timed and so hilarious. They had made the Filipino people proud of them since they represented the Philippines.

Blakdyak (1969 - 2016)
As the King of Pinoy Reggae, Blakdyak has contributed a lot to the Philippines. He made several comedy movies like Weyt A Minit Kapeng Mainit, Asin At Paminta and S2pid Luv with Andrew E. He was also known to sing the classic song Modelong Charing that made him famous. Unfortunately, he committed suicide by means of suffocation using a plastic bag. I respect Blakdyak as an artist and I thank him for his contribution to the Filipinos.

Jamir Garcia of Slapshock (1978 - 2020)
When I heard of Slapshock on NU107, they sounded like Greyhoundz but much heavier. And Jamir was their vocalist. Their songs like Agent Orange, Evil Clown and Madapaka and others, made my liking to Pinoy Rap Metal. Jamir had put the band on the map. But with all of these, Jamir committed suicide and just left us hanging. This one's for you, Agent Orange.

Ramon Revilla Sr. (1927 - 2020)
The former senator and actor, Ramon Revilla Sr. has contributed several things to the Filipinos. He made himself as The Agimat in the Philippine movies for several characters that he brought to life. My favorites are Elias Paniki, Pepeng Kuryente and Tonyong Bayawak among others. Thank you so much for all your contribution, Pepeng Agimat!

Rudy Fernandez (1952 - 2008)
Daboy is one of the bankable action star of Philippine movies. He has been casted as the main role in several action films like Lagalag, Bingbong Crisologo and Markang Bungo among others. He is one of my favorite action actors because of his charisma and handsomeness. And it was a sad truth that he already passed away. Thank you for all your contribution for the entertainment of the Filipino people.

These are my backlogs in my #InMemoriam over the years and there are several more. This is the Pinoy edition and the next article post about this is the international edition. So stay updated with us!

Kapish!
