2009 NBA All-Star Weekend Results

Star Studded Weekend

Yesterday morning was the live telecast of the 2009 NBA All-Star Game held in US Airways Center in Phoenix, AZ.

I missed it because... I had to go to the dentist to have my biannual dental check up. Not only that, we don't have any cable service so I missed the whole weekend highlights.

And so I decided to check their site for the highlights of the weekend event of the most exciting sport in the world. Although I haven't followed the game ever since Michael Jordan last played... this is still a winner. Here are the highlights...

Day 1
First off... Friday, the Sophomores still dominates the Rookies in their annual game. Kevin Durant of the Oklahama City Thunders (New NBA Team) scored a Rookie Challenge record of 46 points. He lead the Sophomores to a 122-116 win over the Rookies.

Before that there was the All-Star Celebrity game that was sponsored by McDonalds. Among the participants are actors Chris Tucker and Michael Rapaport and former NBA players Clyde Drexler, Dominique Wilkins and Dan Majerle. The Harlem Globetrotters also participated in the event including the legend Curly Neal. The East Sunrisers won over the West Sunsetters, 60-57.

Day 2

There were a lot of events and surprises happened. Miami Heat's Daequan Cook stands out to be the Foot Locker Three-Point Shootout Champion. Derrick Rose of The Chicago Bulls was faster to win the PlayStation Skills Challenge ending it with a dunk.

But the most anticipated event was the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest. New York's Nate Robinson wore a green jersey to dethrone the Superman. He called himself the Krypto-Nate then jumped and dunked over Dwight Howard and earn the Slam Dunk Champion trophy..

Day 3

The All-Star Game itself. The opening was very nice when Shaq was introduced. O'neal danced on what he called Shaqawockeez

And so they played the game. And after 2 hours and 35 minutes of shots, dunks, fast breaks, dribbles, and timeouts... the West All-Stars won the game with 146-119 over the East. Shaq and Kobe Bryant shared the MVP trophy. Kobe led all scorers with 27 points. Shaq compliments now that Bryant is the best player in the NBA.

Kapish!
