Lessons For Valentines

Its February and we all know that this is the most romantic season of the year. Last weekend, I noticed that some men gave flowers, chocolates and other gifts that would compliment their other half or the opposite sex.

Budget is tight for us and we just celebrated Heart's Day with a simple dinner and love making. There are also that are not so lucky that they have to spend this day with broken hearts and tears. I pity them.

Although, I believe in the saying that "You are the one that decides your own happiness", but still people are hard headed when it comes to love. I want to share with you some lines I picked up from one of my favorite author Bob Ong. I'll try my best to translate it in english... These quotes are for lovers. Here they are...

1. "Kung hindi mo mahal ang isang tao, wag ka nang magpakita ng motibo para mahalin ka nya.." - If you don't love a person, don't show actions or motives for the opposite sex to love you.
2. "Huwag mong bitawan ang bagay na hindi mo kayang makitang hawak ng iba." - Don't let go of something that you don't want to see held by someone else.
3. 3. "Huwag mong hawakan kung alam mong bibitawan mo lang." - Don't hold on if you know for yourself that you'll just let it go.
4. "Huwag na huwag ka hahawak kapag alam mong may hawak ka na." - Don't ever hold on to someone if you already have someone in your arms.
5. "Parang elevator lang yan eh, bakit mo pagsisiksikan ung sarili mo kung walang pwesto para sayo. Eh meron naman hagdan, ayaw mo lang pansinin." - Its just like an elevator, why do you have to cram in when you know its full and there's no room for you, The stairs is always there, you just don't notice it.
6. "Kung maghihintay ka nang lalandi sayo, walang mangyayari sa buhay mo.. Dapat lumandi ka din." - If you're just waiting for someone to flirt with you, you're wasting your time. You need to make a move yourself and flirt.
7. "Pag may mahal ka at ayaw sayo, hayaan mo. Malay mo sa mga susunod na araw ayaw mo na din sa kanya, naunahan ka lang." - If you love someone and he/she ignores your feelings, Ignore it back. Maybe in the next few days, you don't love him/her anymore.
8. "Hiwalayan na kung di ka na masaya. Walang gamot sa tanga kundi pagkukusa." - When time comes that you're not happy with each other, separate. There's no cure for stupidity but being proactive.
9. "Pag hindi ka mahal ng mahal mo wag ka magreklamo. Kasi may mga tao rin na di mo mahal pero mahal ka.. Kaya quits lang." - Don't be frustrated if your beloved doesn't love you back. Why? Bacause there are people that you don't love but love you back. Fair enough? Yes!
10. "Kung dalawa ang mahal mo, piliin mo yung pangalawa. Kasi hindi ka naman magmamahal ng iba kung mahal mo talaga yung una." - If you have loved two people, choose the second because you will not love the latter if you really loved the first person.
11. "Hindi porke't madalas mong ka-chat, kausap sa telepono, kasama sa mga lakad o ka-text ng wantusawa eh may gusto sayo at magkakatuluyan kayo. Meron lang talagang mga taong sadyang friendly, sweet, flirt, malandi, pa-fall o paasa." - It doesn't mean that if you spend more time with this person, talk on the phone, chat, or sending text messages that you are meant for each other. They are just the type of people that only likes to flirt.

It will come a time that your standards will change. 3, 5, 10 years from now you'll realize that its wrong to choose a partner because you're physically attracted or you feel horny. The character is the most important. Over the years the most beautiful men and women are going to age. Believe me.
13. "Minsan kahit ikaw ang nakaschedule, kailangan mo pa rin maghintay, kasi hindi ikaw ang priority." - Sometimes you need to wait even if you're next in line. Because you're not a priority.

17. “Hindi lahat ng kaya mong intindihin ay katotohan, at hindi lahat ng hindi mo kayang intindihin ay kasinungalingan” - Not all of the things that you can understand are real, neither all the things that you can't are lies.
18. "Kung nagmahal ka ng taong di dapat at nasaktan ka, wag mong sisihin ang puso mo. Tumitibok lng yan para mag-supply ng dugo sa katawan mo. Life will be better if you understand that its all your fault!
19. "Ang pag-ibig parang imburnal...nakakatakot mahulog...at kapag nahulog ka, it's either by accident or talagang tanga ka.." - Love is like the sewers. You fear of falling down into it. And if you fall its either by accident or you're stupid.

I hope my translation can be understood because these quotes are quite idiomatic. For fellow locals, try translating it better. I need to go now before my blood coming out of my nose drops on the keyboard.
